The Non-Traditional Groom: Why His Wedding Band could be anything but boring

In the world of wedding jewellery, the engagement ring tends to be the star of the show.

But there is so much more jewellery to consider beyond the proposal, and at Charlotte Mari, we believe our grooms should never be overlooked.

Often, when a groom starts his search for a wedding band, he finds himself scrolling through endless off-the-shelf plain bands, thinking ‘that’ll do’.

It can leave you/him feeling a little uninspired.

But a wedding band is an investment; it’s symbolic, and it’s intended to be worn every single day.

So, you need to get it right, right?

Your Vision, Our Skills

Do you even know that making exactly what you want is an option?

You don’t have to settle for 'standard’ or ‘plain’. Working closely with couples in our Porthcawl studio, Charlotte takes you through the entire process - from the initial sketch to the final polish.

Whether you want something classic like Justin Bieber, a textured band like Prince Harry, or a sleek, simple style like Brooklyn Beckham, we can help you achieve it.

Show us your screen shots, your Pinterest board, or just name the Celeb, and Charlotte gets sketching!

Why Should the Girls Have All the Fun?

Recently, we’ve loved pushing the boundaries of the ‘traditional’ band.

We’ve had the pleasure of creating some truly special pieces for grooms who wanted a bit of sparkle.

If you want to talk about diamonds, let’s talk!

From classic stones to the incredibly cool and edgy ‘salt and pepper’ diamonds, to precious gems, male jewellery has come a long way. These aren’t just rings; they are heirloom pieces full of personality and love. If ‘more is more’ is your style, we are here for it.

We are obsessed with these two show-stopping bands - what a pleasure to create.

Rugged, Textured, and Real

We understand that for many men, a high-shine, polished gold ring just doesn't feel like them, particularly if you don’t often wear rings. If you prefer a more rugged or less formal aesthetic, we have a library of finishes to add depth and character:

  • Hammered & Molten: For a hand-forged, organic feel.

  • Brushed & Matte: For a subtle, modern finish.

  • Oxidised Silver: For a dark, edgy, 'lived-in' look.

  • Ridged & Engraved: To add architectural interest.

Practicality Everyday

If you work in a manual job or a trade where you’re hands-on all day, you need a band that is robust and practical.

We specialise in creating solid, durable rings that can handle the graft while still looking incredible. We have even had Groom’s who have a Wedding Band, but also have a lower-cost ‘everyday’ Band - saving your ‘real one’ for outside of work, and taking away the fear of loss or damage.

The Secret Connection

One of our favourite ways to design for a couple is finding quiet ways to connect your ring to your partner’s. Just like you as a couple, your rings can be individual but clearly belong together.

We can add:

  • Secret Messages: A date or a private word stamped on the inside.

  • Imprints & Initials: Subtle identifiers known only to you.

  • Hidden Stones: A small gem set on the inside of the band.

Finding Your Comfort Zone

We know that for some grooms-to-be, wearing a ring every day takes some getting used to. You might be worried about how it feels or how ‘heavy’ it looks. You are more than welcome to visit us and try on multiple styles and weights until you find exactly what feels right.

Charlotte will talk you through thicknesses, depths, finishes, and importantly, budgets. Whatever your style - formal, casual, a bit of ‘bling,’ or something really subtle - we are certain that we can create the perfect piece for you.

Never think a groom’s wedding band has to be ‘just’ a plain gold band. It can be - but it can also be so much more.
